It is the gold standard for things to do in Coronado this May.

Pro Tips for the Ultimate Experience:
-
The "Blanket Strategy": Per city rules, you can’t "stake your claim" with a blanket until 3:00 PM on the day of the concert. Expect a friendly but focused crowd waiting at the edge of the grass for the clock to strike three!
-
Seating Etiquette: Keep it low! If you bring chairs, make sure they are the low-back beach variety so the people behind you can see the band.
-
Picnic Like a Pro: Most locals order a pizza from Village Pizzeria or grab a "Concert Box" from a local deli. Just remember: Alcohol is permitted for those 21+, but glass containers are technically a no-go—pour that vintage into a reusable cup!
The "After-Party": Once the music ends at 8:00 PM, follow the crowd over to Orange Avenue for a post-concert scoop of ice cream.

The Local's Choice
Non-date-specific gems and the "island rhythm" for May.
While the calendar is packed, some of the best Coronado beach activities don't have a start time. Here is what the locals are doing this month:
Low Tide Exploration
May brings some fantastic afternoon negative tides.
-
The Vibe: Head to the rocks in front of the Hotel del Coronado.
-
Pro Tip: Look for a -0.5 tide around 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM (May 10–12). This is the best time to spot sea anemones and small crabs without getting your shoes too wet.
The "New" Sandcastle Spot
You may have heard that the legendary "Sandcastle Man" and The Del have parted ways after 40 years.
-
The Vibe: Don't worry—you can still find his massive masterpieces!
-
Where to look: Bill Pavlacka has moved his buckets just north of the Main Lifeguard Tower. It’s the perfect mid-walk stop during your morning stroll.
Sunset at the Ferry Landing
While everyone flocks to the beach for sunset, locals know the "city view" is just as sweet.
-
The Vibe: Watch the San Diego skyline turn pink and gold from the Coronado Ferry Landing pier.
-
Local Secret: Grab a double scoop from Cold Stone or a cocktail at Peohe’s and watch the sailboat masts create silhouettes against the downtown lights.
Dog Beach Bliss
May is the last "cool" month before the summer heat makes the sand too hot for paws.
-
The Vibe: North Beach is one of the only off-leash beaches in San Diego with a view of Point Loma.
-
Pro Tip: There is a dog wash station (a hose) right at the entrance of the parking area—bring a towel and save your car from the "sand-pocalypse" on the ride home
Pro-Tip: The "Ferry Landing" Strategy
Skip the bridge traffic on weekend afternoons! If you’re coming from downtown San Diego, take the Coronado Ferry to the Landing. Rent a bike right at the dock and cruise down the Bayshore Bikeway. It’s faster, more scenic, and you won’t have to battle for a parking spot near the Hotel del Coronado.
Local's Note: If you're heading to the Sunday Concerts in the Park, send a "designated sitter" with blankets to Spreckels Park by 3:00 PM to claim a prime spot near the stage!
Shop Like a Local 🌴
